Belenix Customizations/Tweaks (for 0.7 release)

  • Default options in applications
    • IRC client with autologin into #belenix
      • kopete
      • -> Xchat with autologin into #belenix done in 0.7
    • Firefox to open belenix homepage
    • -> Need to open a Basic intro page with link to BeleniX website.
  • Default theme needs to change. Hasn't changed since V0.4
    • Pick from kde-look.org ?
    • -> New theme done for 0.7 based on WorldKDE theme set from kde-look.
    • Uniform theming to be applied to major KDE apps like kopete, amarok, k3b, etc.
    • Belenix themed KSplash, KDM, background logos
    • -> Fully themed in 0.7
  • TastyMenu to replace KDE Menu (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=41866)
    • Spec file committed into SFE
    • -> Integrated into 0.7
  • Have KDM as the login manager
  • -> Done in 0.7
  • Modify firefox widgets to look like KDE widgets (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=64392)
  • -> Need to consider this for 0.7. Looks like it replaces files rather than adding more stuff, so should be possible to include.
  • KSmoothDock as an alternative to kicker (http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KSmoothDock?content=6585)
  • -> Avant Window Navigator can be used with Compiz and KSmoothDock without it. This can happen in 0.8.
  • Network Manager (including wireless networks)
    • KDE has a network manager. May need a port since it doesn't work currently.
  • -> Something to look at for 0.8.
  • Better default fonts
    • Look at liberation fonts or Bitstream Vera or dejaVu fonts in FOX
    • -> DejaVU Sans 10 is default in 0.7 with AntiAliasing turned on.
  • Minimal interactions during bootup.
  • -> Xorg config screen removed but keyboard and desktop selection still present in 0.7.
  • Have bash auto-completions customized for few useful commands.
  • Friendly vimrc, screenrc, bashrc, mrxvtrc etc.. plus the "skel" version of these files used during new user creation
  • Integrate Device Detection Tool with customization to include drivers bundled by belenix and facility to upload data into belenix site
  • -> Things to look at for 0.8. BTW Color ls is enabled in 0.7.
