Solaris Express Community Edition (SXCE)

Released every 2 weeks, this is an early preview of what will eventually become Solaris 11 (note: product name not confirmed ;-). Use this for access to the very latest features.

Solaris Express Developer Edition (SXDE)
Created by: Sun Microsystems Inc.
Platforms: SPARC, x86 and x64
Based on SXCE, this is officially released every 3 months. Developer support is available from Sun.

OpenSolaris Developer Preview
Created by: OpenSolaris community (mainly Sun)
Platforms: x86 and x64, (SPARC to follow)
The OpenSolaris Developer Preview is developer by Project Indiana and is designed to create an OpenSolaris dsitribution that will eventually become the OpenSolaris reference platform. It is designed to attract developers and users from other operating systems - with particular focus on luring Linux developers. It is currently the home of the new packaging system that Sun is developing for (Open)Solaris - the Image Packaging System (IPS).
